Hi, I’m Todd.

For 12+ years I’ve designed software and then built it, mostly tools for the people who use them all day.

I studied computer science at Oklahoma State, then went to SMU Guildhall for game design. There I built levels, designed UI and boss encounters, and shipped team games with designers, artists, and programmers. Guildhall also trained producers alongside the developers, and watching that side of the work is where my interest in product started.

Since then I’ve worked in consulting, payments, public safety, and finance. The job has looked about the same in each place: talk with the people who will use something, design it, build it, and keep improving it after launch.

The work I go deepest on is design systems. Tokens, components, and the standards that let a lot of developers build consistent UI quickly. Most of that work has been private, so this site is where I start showing how I think about it, out in the open.

I live in Fort Worth, Texas, with my wife, our two kids, two cats, and a bearded dragon. We’re planning a move to the Pacific Northwest.
